My commutes to college just got a whole lot better! I've never been able to find any of these in stores except for Signals so I'm definitely excited to give them a spin. I'm going to do a record store run this weekend to see if I can pick up some Pink Floyd and Iron Maiden. :)

You're in college? Dude, you impress me, usually guys who listen to that stuff is my age or older.

I'm not a huge Floyd fan, but I love me some early maiden.

Thanks! My dad thinks it's funny that I listen to a whole bunch of the old stuff, the music my uncle listened to in his youth. I've always wanted Relayer since I listened to it on YouTube a few years back but I've never been able to find it in stores so I just decided to order it online and somehow ended up with four albums in my cart instead of just the one, lol.

I honestly don't know what to listen to first!

Yeah, I'm 25 years old. I guess I have my uncle to thank for filling my childhood with Judas Priest, Pantera, Metallica, Rush and Led Zeppelin.

I want to pick up Wish You Were Here which is the album they released after Dark Side of The Moon. It's my favorite by them. I'm hoping to be able to find Iron Maiden's Somewhere in Time or Seventh Son of A Seventh Son, or both if I can manage it.

Hehe, I'm 33 and I "blame" my uncle for my taste in music too... He kept feeding me Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zep, Hawkwind and The Ramones when I was 5-6 years old.

Have you heard Dave Matthews Band? Not prog rock per say, but quite good.

I've heard of them but I've never really given them a listen, I'll check it out!

My uncle still has all his old records on vinyl at my grandmother's house.the only problem is the record player is busted but I might buy one of my own soon. It would be a shame to let all those albums sit there, unused for so long.

Shame indeed, but going down that route is dangerous... Before you know it you're looking for old records by Tangerine Dream..

Anyway, if you buy a record player now, make sure it has a usb out thingy, that way you can transfer that beautiful vinyl into the digital world.

nice selection. I would assert that the addition of the Kings of Leon's "Becuase Of The Times" and TV On The Radio's "Dear Science" would fill a six-disc in-dash changer with a solid road-trips worth of extra awesomesauce.

Sometimes I wish I was still operating on CDs so I would be forced to listen to whole albums and groom my in-car music selection more carefully... but alas! SYNC with a 32GB SD card and an additional 16GB USB stick holds so much music I some times stutter and hem and haw when trying to tell the SYNC lady exactly what it is I want to hear... "say a command..." she intones...

"Play artist.... ummm...." BING!

"Did you mean; play artist Hum?"

"no"

"say a command..."

"Play Song.... the... um... er" BING!

"Did you mean; play song Number one?"

"no"

"say a command..."

"Play ... oh, fuckit, play all, random" BING!

"Did you mean; play song Futuristic Casket by Phantogram?"

*sigh* "yes". BING!

*music starts* it's OK, I like this song...

....

You and I could listen to a lot of music together. When I was in HS and college (mid to late 80's) everybody was listening typical 80's fare. And while I didn't dislike most of it, I was spending my time with Uriah Heep, The Doors, Buffalo Springfield, Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc. I saw Rush live back in the late 80's, not sure what tour it was. Well, let's just say I don't remember a whole lot of that concert. Though I did see a guy get stabbed.

I found one on Amazon just like that for $57 but it's going to have to wait until next month. My uncle and grandfather together have over 1,000 vinyls just sitting there. Must listen.

That's why I like CD's, you pop it in and listen to it all the way through.

Lol, I've never been able to get Sync working right while in my grandmother's Focus.

My uncle was always lending me his Led Zeppelin, Rush, Black Sabbath and Judas Priest albums when I was in kindergarten back in '95. It felt neat to listen to them on my own Walkman tape player while waiting to be picked up from school. The other kids always asked me why I liked "that old stuff" and I always told them it was just good.

My father being a professor at he Conservatory of Music here in Puerto Rico always had classical music playing around he house. I lost track of how many times I fell asleep listening to Mozart's Die Zauberflöte.

Also, who gets stabbed at a Rush concert? Seems like the wrong sort of crowd to be engaging in that sort of behavior.

Biker dudes. There was a fight at the Hampton Coliseum, where the concert was held, and one of the guys pulled a knife.

What does your father teach? I'm a professional musician (trumpet), and my father is also a musician (organ, harpsichord, theory, history). He never let us listen to "our" music in the car. It always had to be classical, and I grew up around the symphony, chamber music, and lots of Bach. I play classical music now, but I never listen to it.

My father is the choir conductor and he briefly taught music theory while that professor was on sabbatical. He also does coaching for the vocal performance students as he has worked with a local opera foundation for going on twenty years now.

I don't really listen to it much anymore but every now and then the mood strikes me.

I'm a huge Rush fan and a huge Yes fan.

Pick which band you like more. If it's Yes, listen to Relayer. My lord, it's amazing. Squire's bass work on "Gates" and "Sound Chaser" are insane. (And I can play them both! /bragging). Howe goes nuts on "To Be Over" too. And he only uses a telecaster on this album, so the guitar sound really has some bite to it.

As for Rush, it depends on what you like more. You like 2112? Listen to A Farewell to Kings. You like Moving Pictures? Listen to Signals.

But fair warning on listening to "Kings"... If you don't have their album "Hemispheres", get it. It's a direct follow up to "Kings" and one of my favorite Rush albums.

I just finished listening to Gates of Delirium, whoa.

Have Hemispheres but it's at my uncle's house. Gonna need to pick it up. I like both styles of Rush so it's not an issue for me.
